VINOBLE TAKES PLACE IN LONDON WITH TORO ALBALÁ’S DON PX CONVENTO SELECCIÓN 1955

Bodegas Toro Albalá participated in the presentation of Vinoble 2018, at the Spanish embassy in London on 26th February. This historic act has been promoted by the Junta de Andalucía, through the 4 Regulatory Councils (Málaga,Montilla-Moriles, Jerez-Sherry-Xèrez and Condado de Huelva), each one chose a representative wine to present at the event. In the case of Montilla-Moriles,the choice was the Don PX 1955 Convento Selección from the Aguilarense Toro Albalá winery. The event was attended by Enrique Garrido, Manager of the DOP Montilla-Moriles,and Alba Salesa, Export Director of Bodegas Toro Albalá, along with members of the rest of the Andalusian Denominations.

The presentation of the wines took place at the gala dinner, where our wines were paired with the gastronomy of chef José Pizarro. The tasting was led by Master of Wine Sarah James Evans. She is a renowned journalist and writer in the world of wine and is also co-director of Decanter World Wine Awards. Throughout her entire professional career, she has been linked to Spanish wines, specifically sherry. For almost a decade she has been at the helm of the BBC's Good Food Magazine, and she is also the founder of the “Chocolate Academy” and the author of the book “Chocolate unwrapped”.

Andalusian wines are being more recognized abroad, as a result of foreign promotion and the good quality of raw materials. The case of Bodegas Toro Albalá is one of them, of how a family winery has managed to have a consolidated brand within the world luxury sector. The choice of Don PX Convento Selección 1955 is a commitment to a two-generation wine. The founder, José María Toro Albalá, was in charge of the harvest, but Antonio Sánchez, current owner, already had a big responsibility, that of learning from who would be his uncle and his mentor of much of what he knows today. Bottled in 2014 by Antonio Sánchez, when he realised it was the optimal moment for it to abandon the American oak butts, where they had remained since the 1955 harvest. Listed by Wine Advocate with 98 Parker points, which confirms that 59 years in butts produces an exceptional wine. It’s a wine of deep intensity, jet black. In aromas, raisins, liquorice and black pepper stand out, with a cinnamon finish. The prevailing flavours are fig, raisin, nutmeg and a deep cocoa finish.

Vinoble will open its doors from the 3rd to the 5th of June. The city of Jerez de la Frontera will be in charge of hosting the Noble Wines in a unique setting, such as the city's Alcázar. Toro Albalá will be represented by its human team, which will present the novelties of this year 2018 before a public of the highest level.
