SELECTUS WINE

Toro Albalá is an icon in the D.O. Montilla-Moriles. Not in vain, it has been designated as one of the 100 gold wineries of the 21st century and one of its wines has once obtained the heavenly blessing of 100 Parker points. This ancient winery founded in 1844 and located in the town of Aguilar de la Frontera, since 1922its butts are located in an old power station where more than 6000 barrels rest. Some of them still keep wines that are more than 100 years old. In his vineyard, only Pedro Ximénez are planted and the rest is bought to other winegrowers in the area. Worth noting is its precious museum that contains what is surely the best viticulture and oenology library in all of Spain with almost5,000 volumes in English, French and Spanish.

The amontillado 1951 from Toro Albalá lives up to the saying that the amontillado is the king of fortified wines. Dark amber in colour, the range of aromas displayed is irrational. It is not a legend that the people of Jerez who used to moisten their handkerchief with a few drops of old amontillado as a perfume. It shows all the character of the flower tamed by age, spices, balsamics and citric peels over a background of toasted hazelnuts, forming a complex and harmonious set; on palate it’s dry and tremendously concentrated, with an explosion of flavours at the bottom of the palate that confirms the sensations found on the nose. Eternal persistence. One of those unique wines that make you shudder and make your hair stand on end.
