PX GRANRESERVA 1986, one of the BEST NATURAL SWEET WINES, LIQUOROUS AND VERMOUTH INCLUDINGPX DE PAÑA 2016. VIII NATIONAL AWARD OF THE AEPEV 2016.
Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers. Bodegas Toro Albalá was born in the heart of the Cordovan countryside in 1922. Its history is the story of a small farmer, José María Toro Albalá, who had the brilliant idea of storing old wines for the creation of oenological jewels for high demanding palates. A philosophy that he knew how to implant in family values and that are still preserved. Thought as a feat considering the situation of that period. Nonetheless, it helped the Toro Albalá to be on the best tables of the whole planet.
Fino wines were the most consumed in the 1930s by the Andalusian population who went to taverns in neighbourhoods and who mostly worked in the primary sector. The setting of the winery was an old power plant, which started jokes between Andalusians who said that the wine had electricity or was electric, hence the famous name for the fino “Eléctrico” still preserved to this day.
A generational change in the 60s led by the winemaker Antonio Sánchez makes the brand take on its own personality. From then on, the company is committed to recovering the treasures of crianza and traditions in the world of wine. The founder's nephew would bring a new influence from his training in European schools and the faith in a project in which he has been a participant since he was six years old. The legacy of this winemaker, inseparable from his glasses, is not only the creation of oenological jewels with their own style, but also away of understanding the culture of wine, surrounded by literary works, archaeology or painting. All this, without forgetting the incessant aroma left by amontillado butts. He knows how to maintain the quality and the classic flavour. His specialties are the very sharp amontillados and the unbeatable Don P.X. The awards obtained at the Bodegas Toro Albalá represent the recognition of his perseverance in viticulture. Patience bears sweet fruits, something that Antonio Sánchez knows well, dedicated to this labour throughout his life. This winemaker raises the P.X. as if it they were his children. He had them grow in the best conditions so that they would have enough personality when they left the cellars, and be able to stand on the best tables.
