The 2018MUNDUS VINI International Wine Grand Prize awards a Gold medal to Oloroso Marqués de Poley and a Grand Gold to Palo Cortado Marqués de Poley 1964Selección.
The German academy MUNDUS VINI GmbH is an international event that welcomes wines from all the winemaking regions over the world. It aims to bring wine closer to consumers and professionals, promote the quality of wines and their marketing. This contest has become one of the most prestigious in the sector, thanks to the professionalism and expertise of the tasters, who help make it a benchmark for buyers, experts, journalists and influencers in the world of wine. At this year's summer tasting, the jury of 175 experts from 40 countries did a blind tasting, thoroughly examined and evaluated 4,311 wines from around the world.
The Gold winner, Oloroso Marqués de Poley and the Grand Gold winner, Palo Cortado Marqués de Poley Selección 1964. Both are two traditional Andalusian wines of recognized value among experts in the world of fortified wines. The “GRAND GOLD” award is given only to the best wines presented. In this case, it is the first Palo Cortado that the winemaker Antonio Sánchez, a this 83 years old, has decided to bottle at the end of 2017. He always opts for a long and careful ageing of his wines, which are acquiring a unique personality with the pass of the time. It is an elegant wine, subtle in aromas and unforgettable for those who have had the privilege of tasting it.
Only the best valued wines receive the GOLD award. In the case of the Oloroso Marqués de Poley, it is a recognition of the good work on these unique wines in the Montilla-Moriles area, where they are elaborated with the Pedro Ximénez grape variety and left to age in the winery’s courtyard. A style very different from that of the neighbours of the D.O. Jerez-Sherry.
Thanks to their exceptional quality, these wines will have the privilege of being presented at the Prowein International Wine Fair, which will take place in Düsseldorf from the 17th to the 19th March, 2019.
Toro Albalá has a consolidated market in Germany, headed by its director Antonio Sorgato. During 2018, the German translator Claudia Asencio joined the department as Export Manager.
It is undoubtedly a recognition of the know-how of Toro Albalá. His oenologist Antonio Sánchez is an expert in making signature wines with his personal stamp, as is latent in these two award-winning wines.
